6/26/09 BK Skillshare update!

Hello fine ladies and gents,

Happy Friday! Just wee update to keep everyone in the loop of what’s going on as of late:

• We have a venue! The amazing folks at Gowanus Studio Space (www.gowanusstudio.org) will be hosting us!

• We’ve also set a date! The 1st Brooklyn Skillshare will be held on SATURDAY, OCTOBER the 10th, 2009!

• We have an official logo, designed by the lovely Cristin Burton.

• We also established a mission statement to concisely outline the goals of the skillshare:

“Education is a right, not a commodity. We are all students and teachers, and we believe that everyone has something to teach and to learn from each other. The Brooklyn Skillshare is a communal, hands-on, learning experience (information exchange) that aims to serve as a jumping-off point in the construction of an autonomous, nonexclusive, reciprocal learning community.”

• We are now on twitter! Will be updated by the always comical, Miss Sarah Kennedy. Follow us: BKSKILLS

• Skills confirmed to be taught thus far: silk-screening, hydroponic container gardening, beer-brewing.

that said…
• Please contact Caroline Nagy (carolineellennagy@gmail.com) if you are truly serious about teaching at the Skillshare! Being a skillsharer is more than just showing up on the day of the event.

• We are also in the beginning planning stages of organizing a fundraiser sometime in August. If you have a band, or are a performer, or know your friend’s cousin’s sister has a band and would be interested in performing—please contact Meg Wachter (megwachter@gmail.com) for more info!

Have a great weekend!
