7/7/09 BK Skillshare update!
Hello!
Had a great turn-out tonight! Huge thanks to all that attended the meeting @ Think Coffee.
First and foremost:
- We are having a benefit show to raise funds for the Skillshare on August 29th. We are in search of the following:
• Bands/performers/DJs who are interested performing and donating their talents.
• A Brooklyn Venue to host the event.
• Please contact Meg Wachter (megwachter_at_gmail.com) if you are interested in playing or hosting! - Interest teachers, if you have not yet confirmed with us the skill you would like to teach, you have by July 24th to apply.
• Things to think about for your proposal: classes will be an hour and a half long, also what supplies/materials will you need and how much money will it cost.
• Please contact Caroline Nagy (carolineellennagy_at_gmail.com) if you are seriously interested.
• Confirmed classes thus far: silk-screening, hydroponic container gardening, home audio production, how to brew kombucha, massage therapy.
• Once classes are confirmed, we can move forward with making a schedule and then our press release.
• If you do not have a skill to share, but are still interested in helping plan or volunteer—we are happy to have you! Please contact brooklynskillshare_at_gmail.com for more info.
• The fine folks at Transportation Alternatives have agreed to assist us with having a bike valet on the day of the Skillshare.
• Working on getting sponsors (food, drinks, supplies)
• We will be presenting the Skillshare at FEAST (Funding Emerging Art with Sustainable Tactics) on August 8th in hopes of being granted funding.
“FEAST is a recurring public dinner designed to use community-driven financial support to democratically fund new and emerging art makers.”
Overall, the BKSS is coming along fantastically! Stay tuned and spread the word!
