7/7/09 BK Skillshare update!

Hello!

Had a great turn-out tonight! Huge thanks to all that attended the meeting @ Think Coffee.

First and foremost:

  1. We are having a benefit show to raise funds for the Skillshare on August 29th. We are in search of the following:
Bands/performers/DJs who are interested performing and donating their talents.
    • A Brooklyn Venue to host the event.
    • Please contact Meg Wachter (megwachter_at_gmail.com) if you are interested in playing or hosting!
  2. Interest teachers, if you have not yet confirmed with us the skill you would like to teach, you have by July 24th to apply.
    • Things to think about for your proposal: classes will be an hour and a half long, also what supplies/materials will you need and how much money will it cost.
    • Please contact Caroline Nagy (carolineellennagy_at_gmail.com) if you are seriously interested.

• Confirmed classes thus far: silk-screening, hydroponic container gardening, home audio production, how to brew kombucha, massage therapy.

• Once classes are confirmed, we can move forward with making a schedule and then our press release.

• If you do not have a skill to share, but are still interested in helping plan or volunteer—we are happy to have you! Please contact brooklynskillshare_at_gmail.com for more info.

• The fine folks at Transportation Alternatives have agreed to assist us with having a bike valet on the day of the Skillshare.

• Working on getting sponsors (food, drinks, supplies)

• We will be presenting the Skillshare at FEAST (Funding Emerging Art with Sustainable Tactics) on August 8th in hopes of being granted funding.

“FEAST is a recurring public dinner designed to use community-driven financial support to democratically fund new and emerging art makers.”

Overall, the BKSS is coming along fantastically! Stay tuned and spread the word!
