meeting notes 8/20

BENEFIT SHOW

  • is one week away!
  • Time Out NY is writing up the show (issue out next Thurs 8/27 and online Wed 8/26) in their “Own This City” section. Rock!
  • Metro is also writing up about the show
  • fabulous PR maven, miss Yana, sent out a PR blast last week and is owed our first-born for the wonderful feedback & attention we’ve been getting (see above). she will be sending out a reminder blast next week to all local blogs, etc.
  • DONATIONS! We need them! Nicole Poko amazingly secured us a pair of tickets to see Kyp Malone’s (from Tv On The Radio) new band, Rain Machine, at the Bell House to raffle off the night of the show. Yana is composing a form letter as I write this for anyone and everyone to send out to local business owners they may know to get donations of any kind (Jess - we were wondering if The Shiny Squirrel could contribute anything to be raffled off?) or gift certificates to be raffled off (some places we’ll be contacting: BK Museum, BK Botanical Gardens, BK Bowl, The Gutter, Smith Street Tattoo, various coffee shops, yoga studios, etc). Be on the lookout for the form email + sponsor packet later today (thanks, Yana!)
  • Band line-up is as follows: 8pm - DJ, 9-9:35pm - Tenements, 9:50-10:25pm - Mathew Snow, 10:40-11:15pm - Flower Mound, 11:30pm-12:05am - Gunfight!, 12:20-12:55am The XYZ Affair
  • Bake Sale - is fabulously being spear-headed by the lovely Tracy of Sweet Tooth of the Tiger. Many Skillshare members are also donating baked goods to the sale, so if you feel the urge to bake something this week in your stifling apt we’d love you forever!
  • Photos - Meg approached a nightlife photog friend to cover the show and is awaiting to see if he is available. If he is not, Yana has a buddy in mind that would be good to do it and if that doesn’t work—does anyone know a good nightlife-esque photographer that would be willing to document the show for free?

BUDGET

  • no moola yet, so budget prep is on hold until we have some capital to work with
  • need to plan a possible 2nd benefit of sorts as we cannot foresee how much/little we will make at the benefit show
  • looking into grants, sponsorship, and a paypal donation button for the website…

TEACHERS

  • will be requesting short bios and photos of all the skillshare teachers to post on the website
