Teacher Bio: Patrick Carey (DIY Electronics)

Name: Patrick Carey
Class Title: DIY Electronics (3:30-5pm)
Summary of Class: This class is an introduction to the basics of electronics. The class will focus on the most commonly used components and the ways you can use them to make fun art and sound projects. I will also spend some time introducing the Arduino, an open source I/O board that interfaces with a computer, allowing you to make crazy interactive LED light shows, or totally unique never before seen sound controllers.
Your experience (in area of skill you are sharing): I have been messing around with this stuff for the last few years, with an emphasis on using programming to interface with electronics. I (mis)spent some time in Grad School making installations and tools based around the concepts I will be teaching. I also use a variety of electronic components to make music and sound pieces.
Why are you teaching at the Skillshare? I believe in life long learning. I believe education can exist in as many forms as we can possibly think of. I think the subject I am teaching is an important skill for people who want to explore physical interactivity/enjoy making a mighty racket.
