Summary of Class: I am going to teach the class some basic skills to record music at home using a computer. We’ll set up microphones, run a simple signal chain into a computer and set up a recording session in both Garage Band and Digital Performer. We’ll record multiple tracks, mix them and apply digital effects for a professional sounding recording. We’ll spend most of our time in Digital Performer because it is one of the most affordable professional audio applications on the market. However, we’ll also spend a little time in Garage Band since many mac users already have this program on their machines (since it comes with iLife). Once we’re finished with the class, we will have a professional sounding recording that the class has been able to contribute to. I will distribute the recording and the multitrack files online after the Skillshare at calculat0r.com/skillshare.
Your experience (in area of skill you are sharing): I have been recording music using Digital Performer and other audio applications for 6 years. I have learned audio productions skills from classes at Ohio University and from my own practical experience.
