Check this out: Skillshare alumni Anthony Mohen is helping start a CSA in his neighb in Prospect Heights!
The Prospect Park CSA is now offering shares from Windflower Farm, in Valley Falls, NY (which also supplies the Prospect Heights, Park Slope, Clinton Hill, & West Harlem CSAs). The farm now solely distributes through CSAs—which means it is fully funded by local folks like you! This newly minted CSA will be offering shares through Farmingo—which is a CSA management site.
So, right they we are waiting for all the other CSAs through the farm to get ready before the farm’s Farmigo site launches, but it should be up within two weeks and they expect it will sell out quickly!
What is a CSA you ask?
Good question!
A CSA stands for “Community-Supported” or “Community-Shared” Agriculture (CSA)—also known as “subscription farming.”
You buy a subscription from a local farmer just like you buy a subscription to a magazine But instead of receiving a glossy each week, you receive a “share” of fresh, locally grown or raised fruit and/or vegetables. Some farmers also offer CSA subscriptions for farm-fresh eggs, and/or meats. It’s pretty much amazing!
Be sure to check out BK Farmyard’s Egg CSA in Crown Heights! Or find a CSA in your neighborhood (they serve most areas—and if not, start one of your own like Anthony and Caroline!)
Stay local, Brooklyn! xoxo
