There are many ways in which you can become a victim of fraud but one of the worst comes from betrayal. What we mean by this is when you put your trust in someone and they end up cheating you. It makes you feel horrible not just because of what has happened but because of the loss of trust. And sometimes it can happen with someone that you thought of as a friend. So, what can be done to prevent this from happening? It is hard to do this because you never know a person’s true intentions. Sometimes we come to know that only after they have cheated us. Here, not only do these people take your money but it could be your dignity as well. It is important to be extra careful when you are dealing with new people in your life with regards to money. This type of scam has become common enough for it to have a name. If you have ever lost money to someone you trusted, you have unwittingly been a part of what they call an affinity scam. What is this all about?
Creating A Bond
For this scam to work as they want it to, they need to have your trust. Thus, they will think of ways in which they can gain your trust or in other words, affinity. This can happen in places where you visit regularly. It could be a place of worship or a country club or even the park. They will look to build a sense of familiarity with you that they can then leverage into money. Essentially what they want is your money so will try and tell you about an exciting opportunity. Since there is an affinity that has been established with the person, you would be more willing to part with your money.
Be Careful
It might sound like a simple thing to do but it is what can save your money from disappearing. Another measure that you should take is to ask for anything and everything in writing. See, words do not have any value if you were trying to get your money back. To be in a good position to get what you lost, it helps to have everything in writing. This shows that there is an actual record of what happened. With matters of money, it is better to be safe than sorry. Keep that in mind and you should be fine.
